A Nail in Our Coffin
Our Constitutional Republic was converted into a Corporate Democracy gradually over many generations, but the final nail in the coffin came with the ratification of the 17th Amendment. The Founding Fathers knew that in order for Congress to function properly the voice of both the people and the voice of the states must be heard. The Constitution created the House of Representatives to be the House of the people and the Senate to be the House of the states. When the 17th Amendment was ratified in 1913 the balance of power between the states and the national government was lost. The states no longer had the ability to prevent the House of Representatives from passing unconstitutional legislation.
