Status: On February 11th, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce passed the Student Success Act (H.R. 5) to reauthorize and reform the No Child Left Behind Act through 2021. The bill was later removed from consideration due to conservative opposition. A number of misleading claims are being made in the service of passing this bill. The link below is a summary of these claims and detailed responses. Heritage Action is opposed to H.R. 5
As of 7/13/15, NCLB is being resurrected and it should not be. Your senators need to hear from you. NO vote. Vote expected by the end of this week 7/18 or 7/19.
7/13/3015 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Reauthorization: Last Thursday, the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind passed the House in a 218 to 213 vote. Though the APLUS amendment allowing states to opt out of NCLB did not pass, it gained significant traction in both chambers, with 80% of House and Senate Republicans favoring the measure. The Senate resumed debate on the underlying NCLB reauthorization bill (S. 1177) this afternoon, and is expected to vote on it later this week. Sentinels should urge their senators to oppose S. 1177.
