Call Senator Jim Davis, District 50 Today!
Phone: 919 733 5875
As NC iCauucus State DIrector, it has come to my attention from the ICaucus Affiliate Groups in DIstrict 50, that Senator Jim Davis, iCaucus twice endorsed candidate, needs your help! As you know, we hold our elected officials accoutable after we campaign for them to get them elected. Our candidates have committed, on paper and on interviews, to lImited government and fiscal responsibiity. Senator Davis has always championed these principles.
It seems that commissioners and city councils in his district have been pressuring him to draft legislation to levy a two percent room occupancy tax that, if passed, would kill more job creation, tourism, and revenue. HE NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU, HIS CONSTITUENTS - KILL THIS BILL. He needs to know you have his back. Encourage him to say ABSOLUTELY NO TO A 2% OCCUPANCY TAX BY WITHDRAWING S 318. Please thank him for doing so. The bill has gone to the Rules and Operations of the Senate. IT must not reach the Senate floor for a vote. WhIch means it should not get out of committee. (Text of S 318 http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2013/Bills/Senate/PDF/S318v1.pdf)
The bill will increase the already in place 4% tax to 6%.
This is a 50% increase in the tax. The revenue this extra tax will bring in is estimated to be $450 K per year.. They will take this money and use it for Capital Improvements....these will be brick and mortar projects built by government on the backs of the tourists who come to our beautiful area. Once built the maintenance of these projects will fall on the backs of the local taxpayers NOT the tourists!
Send this message:
Dear Senator Davis,
Please withdraw S 318, that , if passed, will levy a room occupancy tax of up to two percent (2%) of the gross receipts derived from the rental of any room, lodging, or accommodation furnished by a hotel, motel, inn, tourist camp, or similar place within the county that is subject to sales tax imposed by the State under G.S. 105-164.4(a)(3). This tax is in addition to any State or local sales tax."
It will kill tourism and job creation. The commissioners and city councils in our district need to cut spending and not balance their budgets on the back of its citizens, businesses, and job creators. We have always appreciated your committment to fiscal responsibility and limited government. Therefore, please withdraw this bill. WE, your grassroots constitutents, will heartily support this action. Will you withdraw the bill?
