"Jane the county stopped receiving any funds for the 287G program during the Obama administration."
Hi Grady, Thanks for getting back. So you're saying that incarcerations are no longer reimbursed by ICE and that the MOA from 2016 does not reflect the update? OK. The problem is it still doesn't justify why we would want to end the program since ICE equipment would be turned back over to ICE and access to up to date data would be terminated. According to Bryan Cox, it would be very possible for a criminal illegal alien to slip through county fingerprinting screening, bond out in 24 hours to be set free before HCSO was aware of his/her status. This begs the question as to why we would not want to give the sheriff's department whatever is needed to keep these illegal alien criminals behind bars until they are picked up by ICE - renewing 287g. The commissioners just allocated $60 million for a high school that's not only in an inappropriate place for a high school, but it's sinking into the ground and will cost the tax payers again down the road to fix. We can't come up with the money to keep dangerous folks away from the public?? We can't think of a better use of our tax money. Why not allocate the $250,000 offered to the sheriff specifically for operating 287g upon its renewal? I don't mind if you share this with your fellow commissioners. This is an issue that needs to exposed to the public so the public understands what's at stake. Please understand, we are concerned citizens for the safety of our county and we absolutely don't want this county turning into a place illegal alien criminals feel safe from ICE which it will once word gets out that 287g is no longer. That's why we're asking the questions and for ICE to come to clarify. I underline again how important it is for our commissioners to come down solidly supporting 287g. FYI: This is a great example of how Alamance County Commissioners are supporting their sheriff 1/23/2019: Alamance commissioners OK $2.8M ICE jail upgrades https://www. Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly. 🙂 My Best, Jane ![]()
